Facial Nerve Paralysis: Just the Basics Part I image
Course Description:

Facial nerve damage or paralysis is a devastating condition and can interfere with eating, speaking, facial movement, and the ability to express emotion. Many people avoid going out in public, causing individuals to isolate, and feel like they are suffering alone. Individuals and providers often feel frustrated looking for help and find knowledge and management of these conditions to be limited. This course will review facial nerve anatomy and causes of facial nerve paralysis. The sequalae of recovery will be reviewed as well as surgical and non-surgical treatment options. Functional problems during each stage of recovery will be highlighted as well as the role of speech language pathologists across inpatient, subacute, and outpatient settings. The overall goal of this course is to advance SLP's understanding of facial nerve impairment to provide accurate and up to date information to both patients and providers.
