Instructor Bio:
Katie has worked with children and adults with hearing loss for over 13 years. She received a Master in Speech Pathology with a specialization in auditory-verbal therapy and cochlear implants from the University of South Carolina in 2012. She received her Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS) certification through the Alexander Graham Bell Academy in 2017. Katie has worked at M Health Fairview as a member of the adult and pediatric cochlear implant team since June 2015.

Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
- Describe how CMV is transmitted, how congenital CMV occurs, and why early testing matters.
- Identify common signs of cCMV at birth and potential long-term impacts on hearing, vision, motor skills, feeding, communication, and overall development.
- Explain current screening and diagnostic pathways, including Minnesota’s newborn screening process and recommended medical follow-up.
- Recognize early clinical indicators of hearing loss and vestibular involvement in infants and young children with cCMV.
