Weightlifting: It’s for Everyone image
Course Description:

This continuing education course is designed for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants seeking to integrate evidence-based weightlifting principles into clinical practice. It covers key resistance training fundamentals, including load management, progressive overload, movement quality, and exercise prescription across the rehabilitation continuum.

Participants will review essential movement patterns - squat, hinge, push, pull, and carry - with emphasis on biomechanics, common compensations, and appropriate progressions and regressions. The course focuses on practical clinical applications, including safe implementation and individualized programming aligned with patient goals. Dedicated time in the weight room allows participants to perform and refine these movements, applying principles in a practical, hands-on environment.

Population-specific considerations for older adults, adolescents, and individuals during pregnancy and menopause are included, with guidance based on current evidence.

Hands-on components emphasize coaching and cueing strategies to improve movement quality, safety, and patient independence with strength training.
