Instructor: Erika Sandall, DPT, SCS

Instructor Bio:
Erika Sandall, DPT, SCS received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Minnesota in 2005 and obtained her sports certification specialty (SCS) in 2013. She specializes in treating knees and shoulders and has a passion for working with overhead athletes. As the previous coordinator for our Throwing Program, she has been involved in leading many local coach, player, and parent events in our communities. Additionally, she has developed ongoing relationships with many local orthopedic surgeons has presented for several local sports and orthopedic conferences including the University of MN, TRIA, MATA, and Allina. Currently, Erika is an outpatient physical therapist at our M Health Fairview Sports and Physical Therapy clinic in Maple Grove (Arbor Lakes). She serves as an adjunct mentor for the sports residency program and supports all residency programs teaching personal and professional growth and development strategies

A Comprehensive Approach to Post-Operative Rehabilitation of the Shoulder Complex image
Course Description:

The course will provide clinicians a detailed overview of the shoulder, including anatomy and biomechanics, common mechanism of injury, post-op and conservative management considerations for rotator cuff tears, osteoarthritis, and labral pathologies. This course is designed to help improve your care of patients, from initial assessment through their post-operative rehabilitation process.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
  1. Review the relevant anatomy and biomechanics of common shoulder pathologies.
  2. Understand the mechanism of injury, common clinical presentation, and operative procedures to implement the most appropriate, evidenced-based, post-op guidelines and rehabilitation protocols.
  3. Learn evaluation skills and basic to advanced treatment techniques for common and unique post-operative cases.
  4. Design and implement an effective rehabilitation program based on clinical and scientific evidence for post-op shoulder conditions
